The Sharp Hospital in Coronado requested a modernization of their 1970’s cafeteria along with a small outdoor terrace. We designed the old terrace into a healing garden for people to enjoy a quiet meal or provide a space where individuals or families can decompress from the stress of visiting someone in the hospital. An abundance of texture, exciting finishes, calming lighting, and a variety of seasonal plants with changing color created a place apart from the clinical environment in the hospital. A new board formed concrete wall shields the garden from the adjacent parking.
